Build on Counsel, Not Impulse
Heaven Said "Let Us", Your Home Must Too

Beloved husband and wife, let me ask you something, how were the last three big decisions made in your home?
Were they prayed through? Were they talked through together until you both could say amen? Or were they decided in a flash of frustration, in the heat of a quarrel, after a long scroll through somebody else's marriage on social media? Listen. Most of the regret living in marriages today was born in one impulsive minute. One angry text. One unilateral purchase. One yes that should have been a "let me pray about it." One word spoken in a heat that took ten years to walk back.
Heaven does not operate that way. Heaven counsels before it creates. Today we learn the same.
God Himself Took Counsel Before He Made You
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion…
Watch this, friend. Before the most important assignment in the history of creation, the making of man, God said Let us. Let us make. Let us decide. Let us agree. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost took counsel together before a single human being was formed. If the Godhead did not move on impulse, what makes you think you can? Beloved, your home was designed to mirror heaven. And heaven runs on counsel. The Father consults the Son. The Son does what He sees the Father do. The Holy Ghost speaks only what He hears. Three Persons. One agreement. One direction. This is the pattern. And the pattern is what we are building by this week.
So today, receive the spirit of counsel into your home. Let the spirit of hasty decisions be broken in this marriage, in the name of Jesus. Let the slow, patient, "let us pray about it first" become the new culture under your roof. Amen
Without Counsel, Your Plans Fall
Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.
Friend, hear this. The word disappointed is sharp. It does not say the plan fails. It says the plan disappoints. And many couples reading this right now know exactly what that feels like. The decision worked, and still it disappointed. The move happened, and still it cost more than it gave. The business launched, and still it strained the marriage. Why? Because the purpose was right, but the process was alone. No counsel. No prayer. No agreement. No spouse consulted with their whole heart.
Beloved couple, you are not one person. You are two. And the two of you were made to establish purposes together. The husband is not a dictator with a wife to inform. The wife is not a silent partner with a husband to obey blindly. Both of you are counsellors in your own home. Both of you hear from God. The Holy Ghost can speak to either of you and the other had better know how to listen.
Counsel Builds Agreement, and Agreement Builds Direction
Can two walk together, except they be agreed?
This is the question heaven keeps asking your home. Can you walk together unless you have agreed? The answer is no. You can live together without agreement. You can cohabit, share a calendar, raise the kids, all without agreement. But you cannot walk together. Walking is direction. Walking is forward motion. And forward motion in a marriage requires agreement.
A long time ago, a sister came to Mum with the same complaint week after week. Every decision in her home felt like a fight. Every conversation about money, about the children, about the future, ended in tears. Listen. When we prayed, the Lord did not give her a sharper argument. The Lord gave her a new rhythm. She and her husband sat down on a Sunday evening every week, ten minutes, no phones, and they brought one issue at a time before God before they brought it to each other. Within three months, the house was different. Same husband. Same wife. Same income. Different process. The counsel changed everything.
Discussion
What recent decision in your home was made without prayer or full agreement, and
what fruit did it produce?
Which of you tends to lean toward impulse, and which toward delay? How can the two
of you balance each other instead of frustrating each other?
What weekly rhythm could you establish, starting this week, where you sit together and
bring decisions before God before you bring them to each other?
Prayer & Declaration
Hold hands. Stand. Decree it together:
Commission Beloved, today you joined the rhythm of heaven. From this point on, before you act, you counsel. Before you decide, you agree. Before you launch, you pray together. Your home will move slower, and arrive sooner. Because what is built on counsel is built on rock. The home that counsels together stands together.
This week
Identify one issue you have been avoiding because it is hard to talk about, write it down
honestly.
Act, sit together for five minutes, pray over the issue, and write one agreed next step
you can both say amen to.
Pray, "Lord, let every step we take this week be ordered by Your counsel, in Jesus'
name."
