Beloved, hear me before we open one verse.
There is a difference between a problem that is managed and a yoke that is broken. Most of what religion offers is management. Take this counsel. Take this regimen. Take this discipline. Hold your head up. Try harder next time. But the anointing of the Holy Ghost was never sent to manage your bondage, it was sent to break it. It does not file your chains down to a thinner gauge. It does not file your yoke down to a lighter weight. It destroys it. There is a vast difference, friend.
So I want to ask you something, and I want you to answer it honestly inside your own chest. Are you living managed, or are you living free? Have you settled for a yoke that has been merely loosened a little, loose enough to walk around in, tight enough never to forget it is there? Have you been told that this is just your portion in life, this addiction, this affliction, this fear, this confusion, this generational pattern, and so you have been quietly negotiating with it instead of casting it off?
Today is the day for honest dealings with the Holy Ghost. Today is the day the yoke comes off. Not loosened, destroyed. Not negotiated with, expelled. Because the anointing is not a polite suggestion in your life. The anointing is the violent kindness of God breaking the back of every spirit that has ridden you for too long.
The anointing of the Holy Ghost does not manage yokes. It breaks them.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.
Watch this. Notice that Isaiah does not say the yoke shall be lightened. He does not say the yoke shall be adjusted. He does not say the yoke shall be tolerated. He says, the yoke shall be DESTROYED. And he names the reason, because of the anointing. Not because of your effort, friend. Not because of your discipline. Not because of your willpower. Because of the anointing.
Now, what is a yoke? A yoke is a wooden harness laid across the neck of an ox so that it can be steered by another. A yoke is the apparatus of ownership. Whoever holds the rope on the yoke is the one driving the animal. So when the prophet says the yoke shall be destroyed, he is saying something far more serious than "you will feel a little better." He is saying, every spirit that has been steering your life from outside is being shaken off your neck today. Every voice that has been making decisions for you without your permission. Every pattern that has been pulling you toward outcomes you never chose. The yoke. The apparatus of foreign rule. Destroyed.
And there is one more thing in this verse that the Holy Ghost wants you to see. The verse says, his burden, meaning, a burden that does not originate from you. The burden of the oppressor. The shoulder you are carrying it on is yours, beloved, but the burden was never yours to carry. Somebody else's iniquity has been pressing on your back. Somebody else's curse has been weighing on your neck. The anointing comes and lifts what was never yours in the first place.
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
Look at how Peter describes the earthly ministry of Jesus. He does not say Jesus went about teaching good. He says Jesus went about doing good. There is teaching that does not do, beloved. There is theology that does not deliver. There is sermonizing that flatters the ear but never breaks the yoke. But Jesus, anointed with the Holy Ghost and with power, He did not stop at instruction. He healed those who were oppressed.
And see who He healed. Not those who were merely sad. Not those who were merely confused. Those who were oppressed of the devil. The Greek behind "oppressed" carries the picture of being held down, ridden, dominated, exploited. The devil had been sitting on top of these people. And wherever Jesus went, He got the devil off their backs.
Now hear me, friend, that same anointing rests on the Holy Ghost today. The same anointing that was on Jesus is the anointing that has been poured out on the Body of Christ since Pentecost. We did not get a watered-down version. We did not get a memorial of the anointing. We got the same Spirit, and where He moves, the same things happen. People are released from things that have been riding them for years.
You may say, "But I have been a believer for many years and there are still places where I am bent over by the enemy." Beloved, that is not a verdict on the anointing. That is a sign that the anointing has not yet been drawn from in that specific area of your life. The anointing is poured out, but the drawing is yours to do. Mark 5 is going to teach us how to draw. But before drawing, you have to agree with the anointing's verdict on your yoke. The verdict is, it must be destroyed. Not managed. Destroyed.
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.
For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Beloved, watch how Luke 4:18 reads. It is the mission statement Jesus opened His public ministry with, and every clause is about undoing something the enemy had done.
To preach the gospel to the poor. The enemy had impoverished people, not just in finances, friend, but in spirit, in hope, in capacity, in dignity. Jesus came with good news for that poverty.
To heal the brokenhearted. The enemy had broken hearts, through betrayal, through bereavement, through abandonment, through abuse. Jesus came as Healer of the place that bleeds inside.
To preach deliverance to the captives. The enemy had captured people. Locked them inside addictions, locked them inside generational chains, locked them inside fear. Jesus came with the key.
To recover sight to the blind. The enemy had blinded eyes, physical eyes, yes, but also the eye of revelation, the inner eye that sees the kingdom. Jesus came to restore the seeing.
To set at liberty them that are bruised. The enemy had crushed people. Bruised means crushed under the weight of something pressing for too long. Jesus came to set such people at liberty.
And then 1 John makes the summary as plain as it can be. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. There it is again. Destroy. Not negotiate with. Not soften. Not partially address. Destroy.
So when you ask what the anointing is for, the answer is right here. The anointing is the operational force of heaven for the destruction of the devil's works in your life. Anywhere the enemy has built, the anointing pulls down. Anywhere the enemy has bound, the anointing breaks. Anywhere the enemy has stolen, the anointing restores.
Friend, let me speak plainly about something the church in our generation has often been too embarrassed to name. There are jinxes. There are hexes. There are spells. There are curses, generational, territorial, spoken, written, transacted in dark places by people you have never seen. The world is more populated with witchcraft than your eyes can see. And many believers have been quietly wondering why every door they push at swings half-open and then bangs back shut. Why every step forward is met with two steps back. Why their bloodline carries an odd pattern, divorce after divorce, sickness after sickness, the same unfinished thing in generation after generation.
Hear me. The anointing of the Holy Ghost was given for exactly this. Not just for spiritual self-improvement. For the destruction of curses. For the snapping of jinxes. For the unwinding of hexes. For the silencing of spells.
Numbers 23:23, "Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought!" No enchantment can stand against the covenant child of God when the anointing is operating. Galatians 3:13, "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us." The curse was carried for you on the tree. The legal claim is broken. What remains is the application of that finished work to your specific life by the anointing of the Holy Ghost.
So when I say the anointing destroys the yoke, I am not speaking poetically. I am speaking operationally. The anointing has the legal authority of the cross and the operational power of Pentecost to wipe out everything from the smallest harassment to the deepest generational chain.
Now beloved, this is the part the AI editor flattens and the religious mind misses. The anointing has been poured out, but it is drawn by faith. Acts 10:38 tells us Jesus was anointed, but Mark 5:30 tells us virtue went out of Him the moment a woman touched with faith. The anointing is on Him, but the woman's faith pulled it.
That is the picture for the rest of this book. The anointing breaks every yoke, but the anointing is drawn by faith. You do not earn the anointing. You do not deserve the anointing. You do not work up enough religious credit to qualify for the anointing. You simply believe, you position yourself, and you reach.
Listen, there will be people in this very week who are physically closer to the anointing than you and yet experience nothing, while you, perhaps far from a meeting, perhaps in a quiet bedroom with this book in your hand, will reach with faith and pull virtue out of heaven into your situation. Proximity is not the qualifier. Faith is. The crowd was pressing Jesus on every side, but only one woman touched Him with drawing faith. The crowd got nothing. She got everything.
So before we move on, let us put faith into the position to draw. Lift up your eyes. Open your mouth. Make contact with the anointing right now.
Father, I thank You that You sent Jesus, anointed with the Holy Ghost and with power, to destroy the works of the devil in my life. I receive that anointing right now by faith. I do not earn it, I receive it. I do not deserve it, I receive it. I draw on it as the woman with the issue of blood drew on it. Let virtue flow.
Beloved, you have just read the foundational verse of this entire book. Every chapter that follows will show you a different angle of the same truth, the anointing breaks the yoke. In Chapter 2 we will sit in Mark 5 and watch three different people in three different situations all encounter the same anointing in three different ways. In Chapter 3 we will follow Legion from the tombs to the towns. In Chapter 4 we will reclaim the territory the enemy took with the name. In Chapter 5 we will see how testimony becomes commission.
But before you turn the page, do not let the chains stay on the floor. Step over them. Walk out of this chapter different. The yoke is destroyed. Receive it. Walk in it. Tell somebody about it today.
The anointing does not negotiate with your yoke. It ends it.
